Children’s Dentist Dublin

It is highly recommended to attend the dentist after the eruption of your child’s first tooth at approximately 6 months old

First Dental Visit

It is highly recommended to attend the dentist after the eruption of your child’s first tooth at approximately 6 months old. This allows your child to become familiar with the dental surroundings and gives the dentist an opportunity to discuss oral hygiene instructions and best diet advice with the parent. Our patients will be supplied with diet sheets and brushing charts to help continue good practice at home.

Our dentists create a relaxed, child-friendly environment for children. Catherine and Riona are very friendly and experienced dentists that will put your child at ease. We create a calming atmosphere and will ensure your child looks forward to attending the dentist.

Our aim is to help each child to attain optimal Dental Health. Habits developed in childhood stay with us for life, so we would advise visiting the Dentist as early as possible – to get the habits right!

“Prevention is better than cure” – It is easier to come for a visit before any problems have occurred – the worst introduction to dentistry is when the child is in pain.

Oral Hygiene

Oral Hygiene

Our patients will be shown how to clean their teeth effectively. This will ensure your child can brush independently once they reach 6 years of age. We give all children a toothbrushing chart that will encourage your child to spend at least 2 minutes morning and night brushing.

Diet Advice

It is important that your child does not use a bottle after the age of 1 due to the links with caries (decay).

Do not put your child to bed with milk in the bottle.

Do not put juice or fizzy drinks in the bottle. Jelly sweets and toffees are a big no no !

We will give all children a diet sheet that will assess their diet for a
week and then highlight any food that has links to caries (decay).

Fissure Sealants

What are fissure sealants?

Fissure sealants are a plastic coating that are placed on the chewing surfaces of back adult teeth.

Why are fissure sealants placed?

The most common place for decay in children is in their back teeth. This coating helps to prevent bacteria and food becoming trapped in the fissures/grooves of these teeth.

When should fissure sealants be placed?

It is recommended that fissure sealants are placed on children’s back teeth as soon as they erupt usually at age 6.

pacifier

Dummy

It is advised to encourage your child to stop using their dummy as early possible. It can have serious long term results on your child’s teeth. It usually pushes out the upper front teeth, pushes back the lower front teeth and may lead to an open bite over time.

late opening hours – 8am to 8pm

We appreciate that people have busy lives and that visiting the dentist during working hours is not always practical or convenient, so we have extended our opening times to include early morning and late evening appointments from Monday to Thursday.
We can also arrange Saturday visits by appointment.
